Meet the author: Taylor Materio
I’m Taylor Materio, and I’ve been captivated by the Florida Keys for as long as I can remember. My grandfather grew up just north of the Keys in Homestead, and my family has been traveling down the Overseas Highway since I was a child. Now I make that same journey with my own family, finding something new to love every time.
The Mile Marker is where I share all of it: the history and folklore, the people and music, the food, and the extraordinary natural world. We’ll explore everything from a family day on Pigeon Key to a little luxury in Key Largo, a night out in Key West, or a trip to the Dry Tortugas. Along the way, there’s always room for a Jimmy Buffett story and the legend of the Atocha.
